Businesses sue over alcohol ban
A local television station is reporting that a lawsuit has been filed in response to the Treasure Island City Commission banning alcohol possession on sections of Sunset Beach. Alcohol possession is illegal on sections of Sunset Beach from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Police Chief Tim Casey requested a ban during peak hours because he claims crowds had become increasingly rowdy in recent years. Several local business owners are calling the ban invalid, saying it is affecting their businesses. At Cost Liquors & Beer and a local 7-Eleven franchisee, have reportedly filed suit claiming local voters voted to overturn a similar partial ban in 1986 and the Commission does not have the authority to overturn that vote.
